Found in open, riparian, or woodlands with scattered trees.

Note the dark bluish upperparts, reddish breast contrasting with blue throat (grayish in females), and grayish-white belly.

Nests in natural or man-made cavities (e.g. nest boxes). Its diet changes with the season, with small fruits, berries, and seeds predominately in the winter, and mostly insects eaten in the summer.
