Camping at Mount Diablo

Due to the high fire danger during the hot and dry season, it is suggested you call the Mount Diablo State Park Information Line at 925-837-0904 to confirm conditions and any closures.

Mount Diablo has three designated family camping areas and five group camps.

On the first of each month, campers will have access to an entire month of available start-up dates, up to seven months in advance. During summer months campers must contact the park the day prior to their arrival to check on weather conditions.

In the summer and fall, the park may close due to extreme fire danger. Call 925-837-0904

NOTE: Family campgrounds can accommodate RV's and trailers up to 20 feet.

Juniper Campground: (36 sites, elevation 3000 ft). Located approximately 2 miles below the summit on Summit Road, Juniper is known for its views.

Live Oak Campground: (22 sites, elevation 1450 ft.) Located one mile above the Southgate entrance Station, off Southgate Road. Live Oak is near Rock City. At Rock City one can explore interesting rock formations.

Junction Campground: (6 sites, elevation 2200 ft.) Located where Southgate and Northgate meet at the Ranger Station. This campground is situated in an open woodland area.

  • All campsites are provided with picnic tables, fire pits or stoves, water and rest rooms. Showers are available at Live Oak and Juniper campgrounds, at no additional charge.

  • The campgrounds are mainly designed for tent camping, yet they can accommodate up to 20 RVs up to 20 ft. There are no hook ups and no dumping stations provided in the park.

  • Pay phones are located at the Junction Ranger Station and the Summit Visitor Center.

Very Important Reservation Information: You may make reservations from 48 hours to 7 months in advance by calling ReserveAmerica at 1-800-444-7275 or visiting their website at Reservations can be made for a specific campground, but not a specific campsite. Your campsite will accommodate up to 8 people.

All alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

The entrance and exit gates are closed from sunset to 8am.

BBQ Terrace (Equestrian)




  • Primitive site, pit toilets only

  • No RV's

  • BBQ Terrace - equestrian camp equipped with horse ties. Max: 50 horses/50 persons.

Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the park
8 people maximum per campsite
Each juvenile (under the age of 18) must have written permission from their parents (with the parents's
phone number) prior to camping. Phone verifications will be attempted.
Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM
No electric generators from 8:00PM to 10:00 AM
Firewood gathering is prohibited
Fires must be in stoves or fire pits provided (NO GROUND FIRES)
Campfire restrictions are in effect during the fire season. Check current fire conditions before lighting fires.
Campers are locked in the park overnight from sunset to 8:00 AM. For emergencies, dial 911

All camping registration is from the South Gate kiosk located from the Danville side approximately 3 miles up from the entrance to the park off Mt. Diablo Scenic Boulevard.
