Mitchell Canyon in Mount Diablo State Park is one of the Bay Area's iconic hiking spots. But what is it like after the daytime visitors head home and the resident flora and fauna reclaim the mountain? Join us for a saunter up Mitchell Canyon to check out the park's evening shift, including poor-wills, bats, owls, scorpions and tarantulas.

Meeting place: Mitchell Canyon Visitor Center

Cost: $6 per vehicle park entrance fee (exact change required)

Distance: 3 miles round trip with a few hundred feet elevation gain

What to Bring: Flashlight, good hiking shoes, layered clothing.
